Brick by brick, cushion by cushion...

As promised I have started taking pictures of our new digs since we have finally moved in (Wohoo!)

There is still a fair bit to go (we still don't have hot water, heating or a kitchen!) But we are happy to live like this for a while if it means the perfect handmade home by Christmas time!

The bedroom was the first thing to be ready (ish) just missing some lampshades and some paint for the side drawers!(Gaz here just enjoying the new clean sheets- it's the little things in life hey!)

I am in love with our new paisley bird blinds, they are just so nice to wake up to in the morning!

Here is one of our skip doors all done up nice (we found 5 in a skip for free!) 

And a little experimenting with paint colours for the side drawers (I like the dark grey the best- it's all manly!)

And the new floor finally gets put down in the living room! (It's all dark and cosy- I love it!)

Gaz's fireplace master piece finally gets a lick of paint (We couldn't decide between 'Green tea' or 'Early Grey,' but we went with the Grey in the end because it looks ace with Gaz's hand sanded beam (Another freebie!)

We have yet to get some proper 'snuggling' furniture, but to be honest I love our mis-matched tweed couch/ rocking chair combo. The rocking chair is actually my new favourite place to do work!

The bathroom still needs a bit of work, but it is coming on lovely! I just can't wait to have my first soak in that bath...

   

And we finally have a working toilet! I cannot tell you how happy I was when this was plumbed in...

 I blooming love this sink (yet another freebie!) But as they say the best things in life are free, and this is totally one of them!

My new studio space!!!

Still needs some organising (and a bigger desk maybe) but I can finally get back to doing some serious work again!

I didn't want to hammer too many nails into the wall yet, so I just hung up a few notice boards and absolutely filled them chock a block with ideas and inspiration (some would say too much perhaps!)

I absolutely love all my new storage! Especially my big cupboard that is pretty much a separate room but still doesn't manage to fit all of my stuff in! (And believe it or not I have downsized- Alot!)

Everything now just makes my working/ crafting life so much easier- I even have drying racks for my bags when I make them! 

I can't wait to properly settle in and start making the big decisions... like where my artwork will go!

A bit of oldy newy...

Carrying on from our house conversion theme- I have just put the finishing touches today on some lovely pieces of furniture for my Studio- oh yeh!

Gaz bought me these skanky old mahogany pieces for my birthday for £20 for the pair (it sounds like not a very good present- but I assure you I wanted them!)

By the way if you are interested in doing up your own storage units I would highly suggest Emmaus in Mossily- this is where I got these from and it is just seriously good so go check it out!

 

After Gaz picked up a piece of glass to fit the larger unit (£7 from our local glass merchants who cut it for us there and then!) I then decided to prime them both with a couple of thick coats of good primer paint.

The next day I went over the old document unit with some off white satinwood. When that was dry (which took another day!) I then sanded and waxed the legs and used some of my old tester pots to paint each inside section a different colour! 

(If you decide to ever do this, I would advise taping off the sections with frog tape to stop smudges as it will make it all a lot neater- as you can see here I like to make hard work for myself!)

With the larger unit I decided to paint it the same colour as we have done the windows and doors (mainly because we had a lot spare!) But because it is eggshell this too took forever to dry! So if you do this, make sure whilst it is drying you keep it in a place, unlike me, without lots of flies who are drawn to the smell of paint!

Et voila! One document and one Fabric unit- done! 

All I need now is to get them organised!

The day the diggers came...

It has been a mad mad mad few weeks (you may have heard me saying!) The majority of this being from us spending every waking minute attempting to make the house ready to move in to- and by gum has it been hard!

But seen as our plans of sanding today have been trodden on by the typical English weather, I have managed to squeeze a few precious moments in to get to grips with blogging- Huzzah!

So since I last wrote about our place SO much has changed- and I mean so much! So let us get up to date shall we...

My dad decided to hire some diggers in to dig out behind our house to fit the drains for the bathroom (boring stuff- but necessary non the least!) And quite coincidentally the same weekend the heavens decided to open and the whole place turned into a swamp! 

Even the big whole that was dug out behind the house couldn't hold the weight and decided to cave in too!

Here is Gaz stuck knee high in what was supposed to be our driveway! (And my dad trying to help!)

 We still managed to dig out 400 tonnes (that's right!) of soil into a pile the size of the house for us to fill our plant pots with :)

 However whilst the outside was getting messier, the inside has begun to neaten up rather nicely!

I have spent the last 6 days in my painting overalls, painting what felt like the whole Universe White and sanding all of the beams down to get rid of the plaster (not enjoyable!) But you can finally see what the end result will look like! The stairs have since been painted white too and the mezzanine (left picture) is soon to be made into my studio!

We have also managed to lay the under floor heating AND our fabulous floor for the bedroom! Plus my Grandad has given us the best present yet and wallpapered our bedroom wall- yey! 

The wallpaper itself was the best bargain to date- we found it in the sale at B&Q for just £6 a roll!

Anyhoo there shall be more to come soon I am sure- and we are not even up to moving our stuff in yet! But I shall keep you informed I am sure of that :)
